Stomach showing an ulcer
Object numberGC.15023
TitleStomach showing an ulcer
DescriptionStomach showing an ulcer, discovered at post mortem in a patient who had died from pulmonary embolism (see GC.14465)
The ulcer is located in the antrum and shows destruction of the mucosa but no fibrosis is evident in the base. The ulcer, however, is deeper than a simple erosion and has a haemorrhagic base. Distal to the erosion is a pale area in which the mucosa alone has been destroyed and one or two small areas in the fresh specimen were observed where there was a mucosal defect. These are associated with superficial erosions.
