TitleOesophagus showing Adenocarcinoma
DescriptionSpecimen and Histological Glass Slide x3 (Images Added)
A diffuse carcinoma extending along almost the whole length of the oesophagus. The walls of the oesophagus are thickened throughout with ulceration of the mucosa and the tumour has extended beyond the wall of the oesophagus to become adherent to and involve the aorta. As the result of perforation of the aorta haemorrhage has occurred into the mediastinum. The cardiac portion of the stomach shows no abnormality and this would appear to be a "true" adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus. The miorosection illustrates the typical appearances of a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.
