DescriptionPharynx, with the larynx laid open posteriorly and the tongue, showing syphilitic ulceration.
From an adult the subject of acquired syphilis and whose dyspnoea required laryngotomy which he survived several days.
The posterior wall of the pharynx, the glossopalatine arch and the soft palate present ragged ulcerated surfaces. The uvula has been destroyed, and ulceration has extended along the left side of the epiglottis into the larynx where the surface is warty and irregular. The left ventricular and vocal folds have been destroyed and the left ventricle obliterated.
