Atresia is the abnormal narrowing of a passage in the body, in this case it is the oesophagus.
Death occurred a few hours after operation from haemorrhagic pneumonia
The specimen consists of the tongue, pharynx, oesophagus, stomach and trachea.
The tracheo-oesophageal fistula, which is indicated by the red glass rod, runs from just below the middle of the trachea to the lower part of the upper oesophageal segment. Repair of the atresia was carried out and the black silk sutures can me made out. The stomach is very small.
