DescriptionDissection of left ear, injected.
The auricula, except for removal of the tragus and a small portion of the lobule, is intact. Most of the inferior wall of the external acoustic meatus has been removed, and by section of the bone the tympanic cavity has been laid open. The membrana tympani, malleus, incus, and stapes are exposed, and a portion of the inferior wall of the petrous bone has been removed to show the bony cochlea and the superior semicircular canal in section. The internal acoustic meatus with the facial and auditory nerves entering it is intact. The tympanic antrum is seen in section, and by removal of part of the mastoid process the mastoid air cells are exposed.
