DescriptionNatural electrical impulses cause the heart to beat. When these impulses are distrubed medical intervention is necessary. A Pacemaker is a name for a device that stimulates the heart. The device consists of a pulse generator which is implated in the chest and one or two pacing leads tipped by electrodes which are inserted into the heart to stimulate the contraction of the heart muscles. The generator creates the electrical pacing signal transmitted to the heart, this is powered by a battery.

VVI stands for Ventrical Inhibited, Ventricular sensed, Inhibited response meaning this pacemaker's mode paces only the ventricle of the heart, senses electrical activity in the ventricle, and inhibits pacing when it detects natural heartbeats.
