DescriptionNatural electrical impulses cause the heart to beat. When these impulses are distrubed medical intervention is necessary. A Pacemaker is a name for a device that stimulates the heart. The device consists of a pulse generator which is implated in the chest and one or two pacing leads tipped by electrodes which are inserted into the heart to stimulate the contraction of the heart muscles. The generator creates the electrical pacing signal transmitted to the heart, this is powered by a battery.
This model is made by ela medical, Mountrouge Cedex France. The make of the model is Stilith 120 VVI. Serial No. CR6454. It is a small oval metal pacemaker with blue makers engraving on both sides. A small rubber entry point for the pacing lead is on the top right. Instructions on the top left read 'To the screw Acces a la vis'.
VVI stands for Ventrical Inhibited, Ventricular sensed, Inhibited response meaning this pacemaker's mode paces only the ventricle of the heart, senses electrical activity in the ventricle, and inhibits pacing when it detects natural heartbeats.
