DescriptionNatural electrical impulses cause the heart to beat. When these impulses are distrubed medical intervention is necessary. A Pacemaker is a name for a device that stimulates the heart. The device consists of a pulse generator which is implated in the chest and one or two pacing leads tipped by electrodes which are inserted into the heart to stimulate the contraction of the heart muscles. The generator creates the electrical pacing signal transmitted to the heart, this is powered by a battery.
This model is made by Vitatron Medical Dieren, in Holland. The company implanted their first pacemaker in 1962. This device is in a clear reside enabling us to see the inner workings one side. The other has a metal plate that has the makers information and states 'R waves inhibited Hysteresis Pacemaker. There are numerous serial numbers visible inside the device, most visible is 31369.
