DescriptionA Royal Army Medical Corps jacket owned by James J Mason Brown whilst serving as a surgeon in the RAMC during WW2.
Mason Brown initially he served as regimental Medical Officer to the 7th/9th Battalion of the Royal Scots later he went overseas as a surgical specialist with the 31st General Hospital. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded the surgical division of the 70th General Hospital in North Africa and Italy. His surgical division was selected to form the Vascular Injuries Centre for the Mediterranean forces (later published an account of this experience). For his contributions in this specialised field of military surgery, he was mentioned in dispatches and received an OBE.
