TitleFluotec 3 Fluothane Vaporiser
CreatorCyprane Ltd (Manufacturer)
DescriptionMetal fluothane (halothane) vaporiser. Heavy cylindrical body with a circular section with a glass window on one side with a line marked 'full', and a larger protruding port with a metal screw stopper. The body of the vaporiser is marked 'Flouthane, keep upright when chraged'. A sticker gives dates of manufacturer servicing (1985). At the top of the cylinder is a barrel dial, the centre of which is red and inscribed 'keep upright, Fluotec 3 when charged'. Can be turned between 'off' and 5. Behind this is a large double ended valve, which reads 'Fluotec 3' along with a serial number.
Designed by Bill Edmondson, who set up his own company, Cyprane, at Keighley, Yorkshire for manufacture. Engineered by ex-BOC Design Engineer Wilfred Jones. A safe temperature compensated vaporizer for the potent agent halothane and the first such vaporizer to be widely accepted. Earlier short-lived Mk 1s were identical apart from minor details such as the fixing of the vapour control dial to the rotational "Barrel", the Mk 2 being a safer version. All Mk 1s were converted to Mk2. This appears to be a later Mk 3 version.
