DescriptionNatural electrical impulses cause the heart to beat. When these impulses are distrubed medical intervention is necessary. A Pacemaker is a name for a device that stimulates the heart. The device consists of a pulse generator which is implated in the chest and one or two pacing leads tipped by electrodes which are inserted into the heart to stimulate the contraction of the heart muscles. The generator creates the electrical pacing signal transmitted to the heart, this is powered by a battery.
This model is made by Vitatron Medical Dieren, in Holland. The company implanted their first pacemaker in 1962. This device is in a gold shiny metal in a small rectangle shape with one rubber entrance for the pacing lead on the top right corner. The makers details have been engraved on the front of the pacemaker: Paladin VVI 72ppm Model 235, Serial Number: A 0286. Paladin Medical Products, Ltd, United Kingdom.
VVI stands for Ventrical Inhibited, Ventricular sensed, Inhibited response meaning this pacemaker's mode paces only the ventricle of the heart, senses electrical activity in the ventricle, and inhibits pacing when it detects natural heartbeats.
